A Whole Bunch of News for openSUSE and Novell

These last few days sure have given us a lot of news to talk about. If the general Novell news at LWE wasn’t enough for you, openSUSE turned two, the Beta 1 is out, and the first two People of openSUSE interviews have been published (a huge thanks to Anica), featuring Pascal Bleser and Stephan Kulow; both people I greatly admire :). Phew.

The openSUSE News site hasn’t been up for too long, but I’m already trying to guess how we survived without it - it’s really essential to such open-source projects; kudos to Stephan Binner and Robert Lihm for their awesome work. Furthermore, the new Software page now also caters for Development versions as well.

I have also somewhat belatedly discovered the Slashdot firehose. It’s a place where all registered members (to my knowledge) can view all Slashdot story submissions and vote on them (higher-voted stories are of course a lot more likely to get published), and it’s been pretty interesting. It’s quite obvious that openSUSE/Novell presence on the firehose is lacking, which is a real shame. So if you care about a particular story being posted there (it is after all one of the most-read Linux news sites, for sure) you should definitely consider voting on the stories there.

Bug Slashing Weekend is this Saturday, so if you’re testing Beta 1, do consider turning up! openSUSE 10.3 is shaping up to be a really great release, with so many exciting things already. Now we just need to make it robust.
